Here is a quick 7 minute video of our newest game Block BUSTER. Block BUSTER is now available on Xbox 360 Community Games.

2005-12-13 Terrain Demo

Connection Speed   Medium

Here is the link to the latest video on the terrain engine.  There are a few things special about the engine that I want to clarify:

1. This video is not edited at all.  The only thing I did post production was to add the voice over.  The entire video was done in a single engine, real-time, as I just ran it and did a walk through

2. In the video you will see three planets, without much of a pause to switch planets.  This is really how the engine works.  There is no more overhead to switch planets then there is simply walking over the terrain of a large planet

3. The planet is not loaded as one height map, but many hundreds or thousands of them, managed dynamically as you travel over the terrain

4. You’ll see there was no load time to start the program.  There really isn’t!  Starting the program, traveling over the terrain or switching planets has the same minimal overhead

5. The capture software only captured 256 color, so you will see that artifact in the video

2005-12-14 Ground Air  Space and Moon Demo (2004 engine)

Connection Speed   Medium

Here is a quick 5 minutes video of the older 2004 version of the engine.  This engine had a very limited terrain system, but had the quick transitions from ground to air to space, and also demonstrates features such as collision detection, sun flares and a few other features not yet added to the new terrain system.

Original 2001 video demo

Connection Speed   Low   Mid  High

This video represents a few yet subtle characteristics.  It starts with the BAD GUY approaching a non-friendly planet, and trying to land anonymously as a simple passer-by.  Remember while you watch that every voice you hear and every vehicle you see is meant to represent a player.  Many of the ships can be carrying hundreds or thousands of players within their own little mini world aboard their vessels.  As the BAD GUY approaches the planet he fly's off course to a rendezvous point with another team member.  There he is to take a captured spy back with him.  He quickly learns the spy escaped and now he himself in in jeopardy of being captured.

Switch Scene 2, our hero is exiting a jump gate where a large asteroid belt hides a friendly space station.  Upon his arrival he opts to fly through the asteroid field instead of around it, and radios headquarters about the success of his mission.  He then proceeds to land on the station after receiving clearance from the control tower.

Switch Scene 3, the enemy tracked our hero and enters with guns blazing.  They fire a torpedo at the station, but the stations sensors recognize the threat and power up shields before the threat does any harm.  Our hero immediately returns to space and is ready to confront his aggressor.  A short dog fight ensues and the enemy eventually flees to regroup and fight another day.

This short video barely does our concept justice.  It doesn't show details of the game, but instead demonstrates what one or two players focused on space combat and FPS style genres might expect from the game.  In reality there are many other things going on where team members are planning strategies, discussing tactics, making trades, spying, and working diligently with other team members to help propel their team to supremacy.

Stay tuned, as we hope to provide more videos in the coming months.
